Chocolate Dessert Pizza

31 Aug

We had the family over for my grandmother’s 88th birthday. We kept it pretty simple by ordering pizza since my brother and sister-in-law were in town and my brother misses St. Louis style pizza. In addition to the salad, pizza, wings, 2-types of garlic bread (1 with cheese, one without), there was dessert. In keeping with the pizza theme I made a chocolate pizza. OH.MY.GOD this was good. I must admit I was hesitant that it wouldn’t turn out as well as it did because I had a h-e-l-l of a time rolling the dough and it ended up being a thicker crust than I desired. I’m sure it would have been just as good with a thiner crust but if you make this and have as hard of a time as I was then no worries – it’ll still be fantastic!

Chocolate Pizza
adapted from this recipe of Giada DeLaurentiis‘s… my version listed below
Ingredients
2 rolls Pillsbury Recipe Creation Cresent Dough (fave semi-homemade thing EVER)
1/4-1/3 cup Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
2 Tablespoons Mini Chocolate Chips
3 ounces white chocolate, melted
2 Tablespoons Slivered Almonds, toasted

Directions
– Preheat oven to 375
– Knead both cans of cresent roll together, and roll-out on a floured surface to 14″ circle. (I
wanted 14 but it ended up being more like 12″ and thicker)
– Transfer rolled out dough to prepared pizza stone or cookie sheet, as desired, and bake about 10-15 minutes (depending on thickness) until pale golden
– Remove from oven and top hot crust evenly with Nutella spread
– Sprinkle with Chocolate Chips, Slivered Almonds and drizzle with melted chocolate
– Return to oven for 2-4 minutes or until chocolate chips begin to melt
– Remove and cut in to wedges, serve warm

* This is such a versatile recipe that can be transformed to whatever you’re feeling like. I’m thinking next time I may try a s’mores pizza or a cookies ‘n cream pizza!
